Areias
cannot be considered another one
of Lobato’s dead city. The
first city in the region to start
growing coffee, Areias was an outstanding
city in the national coffee market.
The kindness of its people has been
known for a long time.
Dom Pedro I stopped in Areias
to spend the night while he was
taking the trip during which he
proclaimed the independence of
Brazil. His son, Dom Pedro II,
was a regular guest of the city.
After the glory days of coffee,
the wisest thing Areias people
could do was to keep what they
best had: its buildings, its pleasant
atmosphere and the kindness of
its people. All these things make
anyone feel like a prince!
