Bananal
is said to be “the capital
of the Dead Cities”, but the
city is more than that. In the past,
it was the main path of the gold
that was taken from Minas Gerais
to the harbor in Parati (RJ).
During the coffee period, Bananal
experienced the glamour of being
one of the richest cities in Brazil,
where its farmers guaranteed loans
from England to Brazil.
Time went by, coffee was gone and
Bananal was left with its wealthy
reflected in its people, its values,
its traditions, its natural beauty
as well as its rich buildings which
make the city a cultural area of
remarkable value.
