Guararema
can be considered as a division line between
the excitement of the big cities and the
inland way of living: living with no hurry.
The city lies on lands that were donated
to a former slave and, out of this gift,
a place with good and friendly people
slowly became a city. The religiosity
of its people is clearly seen through
the preservation “Nossa Senhora
da Escada” Church, which is the
oldest building in Paraíba Valley.
Guararema development took place after
the fall of coffee production, when people
started looking for other kinds of subsistence
like cattle raising, agriculture and tourism.
Although it is close to São Paulo
city, Guararema chose to continue being
a quiet, cozy, small city that receives
its guests with lots of peace and quietness.
