Igaratá
arose from the faith of some people who
settled down around Our Lady of Patronage
Chapel, in the 20th century. After struggling
to become independent, the town started
to develop during the coffee plantation
time.
As Dutra Highway was built far from the
town, it was impossible for Igaratá
to continue its development, but not its
unchangeable faith, which added to its
people’s courage, enabled them to
overcome a big challenge: the construction
of Jaguari Dam, in the 1960s, submerging
old Igaratá.
Since the new town was built, its people
have stuck to their faith, developing
local tourism and inviting you to visit
the town whose main pillar is its own
people.
