Jacareí
started due to its proximity to Mogi das
Cruzes. It was founded in 1652 by Antônio
Afonso and his children. A year later,
it became a village
and in 1849, a city. At the coffee plantation
time, the city stared to have new paved
streets and more leisure areas, with a
little population growth.
At that
time (end of the 19th century), new factories
started to open, such as the socks factory,
and also the cookies factory, known as
“Biscoitos de Jacareí”,
which pushed the city into development
in the 20th century.
Nowadays,
Jacareí is known as “The
City of the Beer”, due to the production
of its breweries, considered the biggest
ones in all of Latin America.
