Pindamonhangaba
is located along Presidente Dutra
Highway. It started to be settled
by colonizers who came from Taubaté.
It becomes a village in 1705 and
a city in 1849. In the beginning
of the 19th century, however, it
starts developing new urban activities,
leaving the original rural dependence
behind.
It used to be a “weekend”
city, with just a few streets and
houses. It starts to grow from the
middle of the 19th century, after
urban activities had begun.
The first industrial activities
start, such as rice processing and
textiles. In the 20th century, the
city receives lots of factories.
